Sitting for too long in one position is well documented to be bad for your health, yet if our profession involves using a computer, it is something many of us do for hours and hours on end without even thinking about it. Sitting is easy, which lulls us mentally into a soft state where we can become easily distracted and not even realised when we start procrastinating instead of being productive.
Standing and working burns extra calories, helps fight heart disease and will improve your working focus. Through the simple act of standing at your workstation our mental attitude towards our work subtly changes and we take our tasks more seriously. Just remember to move though! Standing in one position constantly is no different from sitting in one position for hours, but at least when you are standing you can alternate your weight from foot to foot, stretch out easily when you need to and go for short wander when you need to think.
